There was a great turnout for the Art From Trash workshop on July 9th at the WAV Theater Gallery. Check the website for the next workshop in August. You won’t want to miss it! You can make a puppet, or a flower, or a hair barrette or a jelly fish – almost anything you can think of can be made from plastic bottles.
Assemblage artist Marcelino Jimenez provided instruction on turning plastic bottles into innovative art pieces. Christine Wied, the Environmental Specialist from the City’s Environmental Sustainability Division was on hand to let us know what goes to the landfill and what we can recycle. She’ll be back next month, August 6th, to answer more of your questions.
From Christine Wied, Environmental Specialist, City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Division:
Southern California Edison (SCE) in partnership with the Energy Leader Partnership is once again offering a FREE lamp exchange on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Operation Lamp Exchange allows SCE residential customers an opportunity to bring up to ten inefficient halogen and incandescent light fixtures per household to exchange for new Energy Star labeled lamps. Take your working lamps with the current light bulb in place minus the lampshade to the event held at the KMART store parking lot at 940 Arneill Road in Camarillo. Since you must be an SCE customer to take advantage of this exchange, bring along a SCE bill or California driver’s license with an address where SCE provides your electrical service as proof.
There are several styles from which to choose. Check out the website http://www.scelampexchange.com for examples and more details. The energy cost savings from these lamps may be worth the trip to Camarillo.
