Assemblyman Das Williams speaks at the WÃV

On October 4th, Assemblymember Das Wililams provided the keynote address for the Power of Green Ventura City Council Candidates Forum sponsored by VCCOOL that was held in the WAV Theater Gallery.

The Assemblymember Williams discussed ways municipalities can help in the reduction of our carbon footprint including decreasing the amount of waste being sent to landfills, which translates to taxpayer savings.

He said city leadership can also set the tone for the future of our green economy on the local level by the policies and practices put into place.

State Assemblymember Das Williams represents part of Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley. In the Assembly Williams continues to be an outspoken environmentalist and champion for working families.   

Mr. Williams holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management, with a focus on water pollution, planning processes and land-use law from UC Santa Barbara’s Bren School of Environmental Science.

Das Williams served as a city councilman in Santa Barbara and help lead the successful efforts to expand alternative energy produced by the city to ensure that 34 percent of the city’s energy comes from renewable sources by 2012. He has continued that work since taking office in the State Assembly in December 2010.

In the Assembly he has been working with other lawmakers to help bring forth the state’s requirement to have 33 percent of California’s energy come from renewable sources by 2020.
