I would like to share with you that two of my oil paintings have been juried into the upcoming “29th Annual Competition” of the Buenaventura Art Association, to be on display at their gallery from 1/13/15 – 2/7/15 (at 700 E. Santa Clara St. Ventura, CA 93001). It would be a pleasure to see you at the Reception and Awards ceremony this Saturday, January 17th, 5-7 p.m. (open to the public, refreshments). The hand pulled print above is not in the show. FRANCES SPENCER – WAV Artist

Remembering Taras Tulek – His Life & His Art
On August 9, 2014, WAV residents and friends gathered to share their thoughts about the life of fellow artist and resident Taras Tulek. There were tears and laughter remembering the details of private conversations and experiences with one of the WAV’s first residents. He will be missed. For his thoughts about the first developments of the WAV project, visit the WAV About page: http://wavartistsventura.com/aboutHistory.html

Art & Play – WAV’s 2014 ArtWalk Extravaganza
Photo top left: Ventura Councilmember, Carl Morehouse, and wife and City Planning Director Janna Minsk, viewed art and got artists’ positive feedback on the WAV live/work experience. Morehouse is an arts and WAV advocate and enjoyed being toured through the studios by Sarah Kalvin.
Jillian Nye took the Docents of the Museum of Ventura County and other guests on a grand tour of studios open for love and business. Mitra Cline took charge of the WAV’s first art auction that received donations from both WAV artists and others in the Ventura community.
The Birbrower grandchildren are shown here at play with Cline’s photo board, as well as WAV’s Christopher Brown, Diane Ippel and Karen Harris at work and play. Many more participants worked and played at the WAV – too numerous to mention by name.

WAV’s Paul Lindhard Makes Cover of VCReporter and more.
Paul Lindhard makes his marks in stone all over town, and is shown here with local crew placing the new Smoker’s Bench in front of SHORE at the WAV. Paul was Artist of Distinction for this year’s ArtWalk 2014. Read the write-up in the July 2014 VCReporter by Claudia Pardo. Visit: http://vcreporter.com/cms/story/detail/?id=12133

Encouraging Young Artists with Journal Making
Children from Kids’ Arts visited the WAV again to learn to create journals and to document their summer travels and other activities. At half-time the kids got to share their martial arts and dancing skills in the courtyard. Kids’ Arts visits the WAV every other month to be exposed to the community of artists who live and work here and to be inspired to consider a career in the arts. Photos by Sarah Kalvin.
