Paintings by Taras Tulek – Poetry by Frances Spencer at the WAV Theater Gallery

Three 3D paintings by Taras Tulek, using phosphorescent and florescent pigments under black light and Laser light were shown November 2, 2012 during November’s First Friday. Frances Spencer reads selected original poems accompanied by fifteen community members drumming in the WAV Central Courtyard.

Kids Arts was Back to Create Paper Mache Puppets

Project Puppets and Theater Play was created by Lynne Thurston, the Director of Kids Arts, and WAV artist CarolAnn Swangler. Saturday’s workshop was one of a series of collaborations between the Westside Cultural Center and WAV visual artists.

Assemblymember Das Williams Tours the WAV

California Assemblymember Das Williams, who serves Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, casually toured several artist studios at the WAV on Thursday, September 6th. Williams visited the studios of Erik Abel, Logan Mondol and CarolAnn Swangler, after enjoying the art on the walls of the Theater Gallery. Williams, who enjoys surfing, was so taken by Abel’s art that he invited him to show some of his pieces at his office in Sacramento. WAV Event Turns to Film

Toni Jannotta is featured in the August 2012 issue of the VC Reporter for her film, Voices of the Homeless, with large segments videotaped at her Voices of the Homeless concert at the WAV Theater Gallery in 2010.

Notable jazz musicians accompanied SHORE and other individuals with their poignant writings.
