WAV Remembers 9/11

The very young who can’t remember 9/11 see the LA Times articles saved for 12 years by WAV resident Sarah Kalvin. Kalvin installed the exhibit in the WAV Theater Gallery, to remind those who can remember, of the lives and loves lost, in this stark and poignant exhibit for September’s First Friday at the WAV.

Frances Spencer’s Art Gets Around

A print and a painting by Frances Spencer was juried into the Ventura County Fair, professional arts division, in 2013. This is the third year in a row that her artwork has been exhibited at the Fair. The depicted image is an oil painting “Mimes” that was in the 2012 County Fair exhibit. They played to a very appreciative audience and we will be bringing them back to make sure more are invited to enjoy the awesome music! So authentic! Thank you Chalee for knowing who to bring to the WAV.

ArtWalk 2013 at the WAV Expanded

The WAV enjoyed a new expansion of ArtWalk with Garden St. turning into an EcoFest for the weekend. The Ventura Auto Center generously donated funds to the Ventura ArtWalk, and the City of Ventura made possible the closure of the street for the event.

WAV artists and residents pulled together as a community to make the weekend unique. WAV studios were open to the public, guest artists put up popup tents on the street to show their talents, and music from the City’s stage wafted through the air all day with jazz and other forms of creativity. In the Theater Gallery a master weaver exhibited, and large environmental photos were displayed in the courtyard adjacent to the Beer Garden shaded by a huge umbrella donated for the weekend by the Ventura County Fair. It was truly a community effort that brought the WAV into the spotlight as a genuine player in Ventura’s art scene.
